The Stepwise Tap is a UL-listed dynamic load management device that sits between the panel and high-load appliances. It adjusts appliance draw in real time to prevent overloads.
Tap works with 100–200A panels. It’s charger-agnostic and non-proprietary—use it with Wallbox, Tesla, Grizzl-E, Emporia, and more.
Stepwise Tap is a UL-listed Energy Management System. When properly installed, it allows you to omit the EV load from NEC load calculations per Article 750.30(C).
Stepwise offers real-time dynamic control, not just on/off logic. Plus, it's American-made and trusted by code inspectors.

Using the Tap

How can the Tap be used and what are the requirements

EV chargers, hot tubs, pool pumps, resistive HVAC, water heaters—anything high-load. Reach out if you have a unique use case.
Install Tap between the panel and appliance. Connect the CTs for panel monitoring. Full installation guides are available at Stepwise Product Docs.
No. Load control works offline. Wi-Fi is only needed for dynamic control (OCPP with Tesla) and firmware updates.

Stepwise Tap is deal for:
- Single-family homes with full panels
- Small multi-families managing building + dwelling panels
- Commercial EV charging with single phase power

On panel side monitoring: Up to 200A
On load side controls: 60A max (48A continuous)

Ensure Tesla is linked via OCPP and that Wi-Fi is connected. Reboot both Tap and vehicle if needed.
